Well, the same guy who asked me about A1000 schems asked me something about teh Amiga ROMs that I just can't answer (not being a supreme techhead :))
He basically wants to burn som EPROMs with Kickstart images, but he asked me if the EPROMS were of 16 bit or what. (he said something like 16bit EPROMs were hard to come by!)
Are the A1200/4000 ROMs 16 bit, or 32 bit, or what? Any help? :)
Thanks

As far i know A1000 uses 16-bit roms, so he would need a 16bit EPROM or EEPROM , and A1200/4000 use 32-bit chips containing kickstart... btw i also look for possibility of writing kickstart 3.1 to a 16 bit chip (for my A2000). But i dont know if the signals of the A1000 rom-chip is the same as of the rest 16bit amigas...

Hi,
but he asked me if the EPROMS were of 16 bit or what.
They are 16bit, Even on the 32Bit Amiga`s, There are just two 16 Bit roms, One connected to the first 16 data lines, the other connected to the rest..
The A1000 doesnt have a kickstart (Its loaded off disk) but needs a single 16 Bit Emprom just connected to the CPU, Its a simple task...

Hmm , I was thinking there were some A1000's having kickstart in ROM (v1.2) ;)

Btw, is there any possibility of writing kickstart 3.1 to some EPROM (EEPROM) chip (for my A2000) , and use it as original kickstart ROM ?

Hi,
Hmm , I was thinking there were some A1000's having kickstart in ROM (v1.2)
There were Kickstart 1.2 & 1.3 on disk from Commodore, There was also a few adapters that let you fit standard A500 kickstarts in but not as standard...
is there any possibility of writing kickstart 3.1 to some EPROM (EEPROM) chip (for my A2000) , and use it as original kickstart ROM ?
I have to ask where you are getting the file from,
If its from an emulator then no, they have special code in so pirates can`t burn the files back to chip...
If it was dumped from a real kickstart 3.1 then it could be dumped back and used as the original kickstart ROM.
Why dont you just buy kickstart 3.1? Its much easyer.. :)

Eh? Emulators use kickstrt files that are dumped from real kickstarts. (I know I dumped mine from my A600) What do you mean?

Hi,
Eh? Emulators use kickstrt files that are dumped from real kickstarts. What do you mean?
The ones on Amiga Forever and comercial packages are altered so they cant be used on a real Amiga (So I have been told, I dont use Amiga emulators, I have the real thing :D
if you dumped it from a real Amiga then the file can be dumped back to an empty chip...

Anyway, I have some kickstart images of v3.1 but, when I try to softkick the Amiga using programs like softkick etc. the Amiga hangs up. Why?
One of images of 3.1 that I downloaded was meant to be dumped from A600, so I think it should work with A2000...
I am using 68030/50 with MMU. So there souldnt be any problem... And btw. what are EEPROM chips that are compatible with original ROMs ? I also have Blizzard 2040 with 68040/40 but it seems to have conflict with GVP Impact Series II 2000-HC so I have to find some solution ;)

Dont know, How much chip ram have you got? You need at least 1 Meg free to run KS3.1 (2 meg recomended),
Also try using it from the CLI without starting windows or even the startup sequence.

It should work but it is ILLEGAL!!!!
Buy the kickstart!!!!
what are EEPROM chips that are compatible with original ROMs ?
Dont know, no one will tell you anyway, No Amiga user likes pirates and if you do make a Kickstart 3,1 chip thats what you are. :sad

Hope you meant starting Workbench ;) , the only "windows" ever started on my amiga was a funny demo from aminet simulating the Win95 startup :D .

I AM an Amiga user :laughing , and I think theres nothing bad that I still try to use it. I dont give a **** if its legal or not, for the reason that even the owner of Amiga show that has the Amiga itself in the *** for so long period of time.... Btw thats not matter of Chip RAM for sure... Anyway I have motherboard rev 6.2B and 1MB Chip soldered on it +4MB FAST (GVP Combo30), kickstart 2.04 in ROM...
If you are using relokick, you also need a relocation table for your kickstart image to work.
Let's say you have KS3.1 A600 (41.470) you will need a relocation table for 41.470
I think these come with the program but I'm not sure. What I did, is look at what relocation tables I had, and find a kickstart on the net that would go with the relocation tables I had.

Thats going to help everyone.. Hmmm I think I will leave this post now...
Pass me the pirate copy of OS3.9 please..
hah, just joking :)
With boycotting I meant: not buying, not even USING. I'm running good ole WB3.0 here and I dont mean to change, though perhaps I would upgrade to KS3.1... any advantages for me there? I do not plan to install 3.5 or 3.9.

Rite :p
Btw Amiga Inc. doesnt seem to support Amiga on the whole... its seem they only want to exploit users of the computer (that means their only aim is to make money, nothing much) ;)
