Does anyone know of a good config setting that'll make SimCity 2000 run at a decent speed in WinUAE? Even with JIT enabled it takes almost 16 years just to load a city or anything really. :p

Hope someone can help me at least, I'd really like to play this game properly, without all that F'ing slowdown crap. :(

And is that one resolution that the game makes you choose at startup really the only resolution it can do?

No Problem = No solution :)

Iīm using standard config from back2roots (AGA30) and itīs running at good speed here :confused

I got a fantastic solution...Switch to the PC version

It's faster, and more playable in my opinion

Mine runs fine, Marz. i have heard that a fast computer is needed to emulate it tho.
Ah! Amigaboy and Retrogirl are wrong:) You guys know he Playstation version rocks!

I have yet to play the PSX version so I can't comment there

But. My original point is, it doesn't matter which platform you play it on just as long as you don't deprive yourself of enjoying the game. Let it run on a calculator if it makes it more fun

Now that could be fun.

I'm going to have to agree that you might as well run the PC version. I can't really comment much about the gameplay, but if you're going to be playing it on the PC anyway just through emulation you might as well save yourself the resources and run the version made for the machine you're using. That ought to fix your speed problem.

Now if you had had an Amiga on which to run it on it might've been different.

Yep, the Amiga version was shovelware, that's why it runs so bad! If Maxis only took the time to properly port it to the Amiga, t would have been a fav game :(

There was even an SNES verion:)

It's rather convenient that a Sim City 2000 thread is started here, as I begun to play it again this week... :)

I agree, it's better to just play the PC version, as it's faster than the Amiga version...

Oh, if you want some tips about gameplay, just ask me, I am the greatest mayor of all time :)

Well, does that mean even a Celeron 450 with 64Mb RAM won't be enough? :theparano :bash

I played the PSX version just recently! :) Okay, I guess, but the control system needs to take a lot of getting used to.

Well, at least Maxis tried to make the Amiga version somewhat more like the PC version than any of the somewhat cut-down console versions... :rolleyes (no offense to any of the console versions though, they do their best)

And besides, I thought the term "shovelware" only referred to ST-to-Amiga conversions... :laughing

You know what, I wonder if the GBA would be able to handle a conversion like SimCity 2000? :) Would Maxis/Nintendo be able to pull it off?

2 things, Marz. yes, your processor may be too slow. I am running it fine on a P3 800, and have a freind with similar problem.
He has a AMD K6 400 or something.
As for your suggestion to convert it to the GBA? Excellent idea, you tramp:)
I would actually go out and buy one if Immortal and NHL Hockey series makes it too on it.

... and I would buy one, if they make RPGīs for it :D and I mean no cheap Zelda clone..... I mean games like Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, Snatcher ..... such great stuff :)

Snatcher...... At least would be better than download a 110 Mbs ISO :)

That's a game I've been wanting to play for YEARS.. I have the MSX version, but as everything is in japanese, I can't get too far :)

Uhm, the link Uukrul posted in the MSX thread to SD Snatcher IS INDEED the english version, so go and download it there :)

There is a Segs CD version too. albeit in Japanese.

Marz, it doesn't matter if it looks just like the PC version, it's shite. They should HAVE made compromises in the port. For making a straight shovelware thing they fucked it up.

BTW, recommending to play the PC version is not such a good thing after all. Tried to run it and all the memory management shit I had to set was so annoying that I ended up giving up :P

What compromises? You mean like checking the speed and general compatbility issues etc?

What version are you running? What kind of PC are you running it on? Cos I'm able to run it damn fine under Windows without problems (I assume you're talking about the DOS version, right?).

Akira
02 November 2001, 05:42
Marz, man... dont start to piss me off :P Compromises like reducing the color depth from 256 colors to 64, like utilizing the Amiga's Intuition to build the windows instead of porting their windows system straiht from the PC, OPTIMIZE the whole thing.. I could go on and n. This is a piece of shovelware, no mistake. EVERY game can be ported to almost ANY system if the right compromises are taken, and teh right stuff is kept. Check out one of the fighting games for the NeoGeo Pocket to see what I think it's a perfect port of a game.

And yes, I am talking about the DOS version. The original one. what else ?:P

Yeah, Amiga Sim City could have been MUCH better...

About the Snatcher..

I know the Sega CD version is english..and that's the problem, it's the ONLY ENGLISH VERSION of that game... and 110 MBs is just too damn big :)

The MSX version is just 3 disks big (with no speech and stuff like the Sega-CD one), but it's all in japanese....

Too bad the guys at Maxis never implemented my wish to have prostitutes in the game, so I could name the bordellos as such: "Mistress Marz Gay Love Den"........

Bwahaha, well, you could convert the motels into litle houses of pleasure if you wanted to ;)
