I was warned by serveral people on various board that an 060 cpu is not very compatible but I thought I should ask anyway.

The Whd version of giana sisters does not work with my 68060 setup.
I've not checked them all but from my favorites this is the only one not working.
Is this a known issue for this game.

What happens if that after the two introduction screens the third screen thisplays 'THE' but does not scroll and the music goes wacko. I can quit normally after that so there is no crash or something.

I'm running 3.1 and it is an Apollo 1260 (which many regard as poor quality, but I have no reference. it sure is fast ;) ).
The 060 library trick is installed.

Any ideas on how to solve this would be appreciated. I would not like to revert to my 030.

Thanks in advance.

Kill Apollo, find a Blizzard and everything will be cool.

Blizzards are more compatible than Apollos? Why?

Have you tried the compatibility tooltypes like NOCACHE, NOAUTOVEC, NOVBRMOVE, NOMMU? With these the 060 should be perfectly compatible. After all, that's what WHDLoad is for, to run old games on (more) modern hardware.

For many yeary i owned an Apollo 1260/50 too! The card is good as the blizzard!;)

I had an apollo too. Saying it's as good as a blizzard is like saying a Hyundai is as good as a Mercedes.

No you are not right. I hat a blizzard too but the apollo hat two simm slots and scsi so i hav changed! The Apollo runs good as the blizzard!

Yeah, you're lucky then. All my Apollo cards have constantly crashed and kept failing as soon as I touched my tower a little too hard. None of my Blizzard cards have done that.

But if you count performance, yeah. They're probably not much difference.

The slave enables instruction cache, but the game has not been designed to use it. The game should work with Nocache option on your setup.
I have an Apollo060, it's faster than Blizzard060 in chipmem accesses (when code is in chipmem without caches enabled).

I'm not here for a debate about hardware quality. My apollo runs all other apps and games fine. There are few that do not run and this is one of them. I'm looking for valuable idea's. I've seen some of them above and I will try those.

Thanks for all the ideas and it's good to read someone actually had the sisters running on an 060. That means I can try those extra switches and perhaps look into other 060 library solutions. I will have none of that unexplained apollo bashing.

Thanks for all the usefull advice.

whatever works is nice, be it an apollo, or a blizzard...
I have found some strange WHDLOAD behaviour when I installed the G-REX... sound is cracky and in some places, the games are slow, (turrican 2 intro part with the lazer beam cutting the rainbow arts logo comes in mind)

Just wait for a few seconds, and it will start scrolling ;)

I found it weird though, that nobody saw my first post as a joke. Ah well, that's EAB for you.

I had some problems with this game on my 060 too. I had to toggle the NOCACHE on or off, I cannot remember, and it worked fine. Though the sound was a little off though but the game worked. Try that tooltype.

It IS my opinion. But it was still a joke. I've had some bad experience with apollo cards, and none with my Blizzard cards. Both the Apollo cards I had were in working condition, one of them were bought new. But they both were totally unreliable, I had to be very careful when I shuffled my feet, 'cause if I accidently bumped the tower slightly, they would crash. The Blizzards I had never had this problem.

Anyhow, it was a joke and I didn't expect switching from Apollo to Blizzard would fix this problem. The Apollo cards do the exact same job as the Blizzard cards do, only for me, the Blizzard was reliable in addition.

Its always a pain when buying $$$ expensive hardware it seems to fail you. I do agree that Apollo boards are of lower quality. But I thought you was serious about it would fix my problem. My bad.

Hmm, I'm curious... DopPie, did you wait long enough? It will start scrolling as soon as the background music loops the second time.

Edit: I also use a 060 (Cyberstorm MKII)

I did wait some time. But the music is just not sounding right aswell. It does not respond to left or right aswell. It does respond to the quitkey.

:EDIT
Got Giana Sisters 'working' by not turning caches off at all (!?!?!). The sound is still FUBAR but at least the game works.

I've come about another game on my harddisk that doesn't work. It throws an unimplemented instruction exception. This is really annoying. I thought the MuRedox would take care of this.

:EDIT
I got that game working using the NOTRAPHANDLER option.

Anyway I'll give it a couple of more tries.
