There was a thread about favourite RTS games, but this is broader. What are you favourites?

Supremacy - perhaps a little too much like a spreadsheet, but managing your planets and sending your men off to war was fun!

What can I say? The interface may be rubbish and it's necessary to patch the AGA version to turn off annoying screen fades, but games don't get much more engrossing than this!

Colonization - a more precise version of Civilization. It's completely Workbench friendly too and supports different screenmodes.

SimCity - of course!

King's Bounty - completely underrated strategy RPG.

The Settlers - full of character and endlessly replayable.

Mega Lo Mania - sometimes success is too random, but another classic Sensi Software game.

..... that none of the above mentioned games is really bad, so ..... but Iīll stick to NAPALM anyway :D oh and EXODUS isnīt bad either, but itīs also a kinda "modern" Amiga game, so is Earth2140 :)

Fields Of Glory

I think Cody started this thread just so he could post a few double barrels ;)
Retroman: You just listed 3 of the latest in Amiga entertainment. Not into old school eh?
Since Civilization isn't realtime, I'm assuming turnbased games are alright?
So. Defender Of The Crown would be up there for me (although it's not all totally strategy)
I must agree with Retroman though about Napalm. That game rocks

My 3 fav amiga strategy games are K240, The Settlers and MegaLoMania
Funnily, it seems like I am the only one who likes K240...

Well, I AM into old school indeed, but since I got the Hardware, why not playing some up-to-date Amiga games ;) ??? Oh and btw., from that listed above, I would prefer Mega-Lo-Mania, itīs very kewl :D

No Shatterhand, I find K240 to be pretty good!

I was never a big fan of this genre because too much thinking is involved. I prefer shmups or any other 'mindless' game.
The only RTS I found interesting on Amiga were Dune 2 and Theme Park. Pity that in the latter the negotiation-with-employee aspect ruins almost the whole game.

@ Akira
good thing.. :) K240 is my fav strategy game for Amiga.
Ohh, how I forgot Dune 2! I played this one for ages too
I don't like Theme Park too much... maybe it runs to fast in my PC, I don't know, I think you have to do TOO MANY things at the same time, and everything goes wrong too fast.
Or maybe I am just a crap manager :)
Akira

You are a crap manager :) Though the A500 version hasa different pace, I got to the point where I could do NOTHING to make thsoe visitors unhappy. And I tried to kill them many times! :D

My favourite stratagy game, although it is hard to narrow it down, is Mega Lo Mania although I disagree with Cody about success being random:)
I also enjoys Theme Park:), in fact I like most of the games in this thread, but Mega Lo Mania is my favourite:)

Well, I cannot belive I mssed this thread. All the games you have listed, Cody, are excellent and classics. Such beauty, engrossing gameplay and charming feeling is now a rarity. I have many more favourite Amiga strategy games, but for now, lets take Sim City. This version is the prettiest and most elegantly designed of the many I have tried [Amiga,SNES, NES [japanese], Atari ST].
It is the wellboard, the lifespring of all the great Sim games from Maxis afterwards. Yet, to me, this one holds a special place.
When I was a young un, till about 13, my little brother and I were fanatic Legoland cllectors. We even ordered European sets to create a decent sized metropolis. What fun that was, and such a serious way we set it up, with little political parties, prostitutes, slums, etc.
Really. We were nutty, and our freinds envied it.
I am now turning the page 10 years hence, and I walk into my freind's home, with his Amiga 500, and proceed to drool over this. I eventually purchased it for the SNES, but, it never matched the Amiga version I cut my teeth on.
Fast forward to 1999, and I have a Apple 540 Powerbook and MacUAE running the great game I alwauys wanted, the Amiga version!
Anyway, that's my story. The wonders of emulation. And I am anticipating the much awaited Sim City 4, for my Apple iBook. I am going to love toting the iBook around on the commute home!!! :)http://www.macgamer.com/news/images/1568.jpg

1- Powermonger: Amazingly entertaining and long game on a single disk. One of Bullfrog's best games. Released nearly the same time with mega-lo-mania and beats it to death :D
2- Syndicate: Had stupid gameplay problems like the lack of control in a car but has original cyberpunk environment, pretty graphics and you really feel like dominating the world :D. Bullfrog of courese.
3- Romance of Three Kingdoms 2: No fancy graphics, neat interface, original story.
4- Dune 2: The game that started it all. I've been currently playing it using DBLNTSC mode and it's far more enjoyable than Warcraft 3
5- The Settlers: Agreed with Cody :D
6- Civilization: couldn't let this top 5 be without this one, so here is my top 6 :)

Syndicate
Nothing like setting bad guys on fire
One of the few games where corpses stay on screen

I remember being really jelous of all the great pc strategy titles that were getting released -civ2 et all.
Then i played the pc versions of 'Civilization' and 'Ufo-enemy unknown' , games that previously had taken months to complete and were much more of a challange on the Amiga(Ufo-try to win on hard!), now i completed both in about 2weeks! And i began to understand.
1. Ufo - enemy unknown(AGA version)
2. Civilization(AGA version)
3. Reunion(my space fix!)
4. Vikings-field of conquest(great against a friend!)
5. Lords of the realm.
I also loved settlers,syndicate,dune2 and megalomania.
About 3years ago a friend bought Ufo for his playstation - we completed it in about 14hrs(!) and went back to the Amiga version.:laughing
Powermonger, Populous2, Dune 2, Syndicate
And Warlords 2 on PC
And Laser Squad on ZX Spectrum
Wow, nice bump lol. Well might aswell.
1 Dune 2
2 The Settlers (and Foundation)
3 Civilization
4 Cannon Fodders
5 Sim City
Honourable mention "Theme Park"
Powermonger, Populous2, Dune 2, Syndicate
And Warlords 2 on PC
And Laser Squad on ZX Spectrum
Good taste. I still play Warlords 2 on the PC. It's fracking great! It has been installed on every PC i've had, and i still play it at least once a month. Too bad the following in the series was bad games.
Powermonger...really wanted to like that one but it missed something...
My Amiga favourites (which i have spent the most time with)
- railroad tycoon
- civilisation
- Battle Isle
- UFO (very very good game i've never completed)
A couple of rarer ones that I liked:
Colonial conquest 2 (PD) - great space exploration / colonisation game
HistoryLine 1914-1918 - I loved this; lots of levels and you can play as either side for replayability. I also liked the updates showing the progress of the war and the new technology after each level.
Powermonger...really wanted to like that one but it missed something...
I think Powermonger is one the games you play around 3 in the morning, know you have to wake up in the morning and you argue with yourself if you start another land or rather go to bed :) Like Populous 2, this one should have some warning like pack of cigarettes :)

Actually I loved Powermonger but did not get far into it. Has anyone got far into this before? My armies always ran of food or lacked production of weapons - or just took on new recruits far too soon and starved. I loved the way you could click and see the individual names of units and their condition.
Giving orders felt sluggish I remember thinking back - ie feedback of order. Also, the enthuastic or wary reply from your general when giving orders. The sounds of sheep... of your men by the campfire. The crackling of burning wood. Love to this discuss this one more - I guess I advanced 10 maps... the lack of map viewable area might bother people more now though..
Remember the death scene... with the dead buried up to the hilt of conqueror's sword.
I wish I could go back 16 years for a moment... :crying

all the goods ones have been listed, but my top ones are definately Mega Lo Mania, Supremacy and hmm.... Popuolus 2 perhaps?
i wonder if any of the those "modern" amiga games are still being played as much as these?

Definetly worth trying the WHDLoad version it's so much faster and it plays like it should've done in the first place. I've just taken it up again after... erm... 10 years. Great game but difficult and that's probably why it's worth coming back to :)
1. Dune2
2. The Settlers
3. Warlords (original)
4. North & South
5. Defender of the Crown
Actually now I think about it, I say :bowdown Carrier Command would be my #1 favorite strategy game. I just didn't think of it before because it is Action/Strategy. The action part is very strategical though.:great
