I want to buy a hard drive for my A600 and I have a few questions:

My A600 comes with Kickstart 37.300, will I have some problem with this?

Is it hard to open the amiga for plug the drive?

How many cost a 200-300 megs hard drive, more or less?

Thanks in advance

Hey Uukrul!

37.300 is just fine, no need to get anything new. You will just have to get a hold of Workbench 2.05 or 2.1 for easier install.

It;s very easy to install it inside (plug and play :)), however I dont know where you'll get the craddle to lie it in. My drive comes bolted to a metal craddle that lets it sit peacefully inside the miggy. If this came with your 600 I dont know, perhaps you open it up and the cradle is inside. If not, try to look for one, somewhere. It prolly is hard ;/ If I was you I would open the machine up and check it out (no warranties to void :)), after unscrewing all the bolts be careful with the plastic holders on the side of the case, dont break them! You will have to push'em with something to open up the case.

I have no clues about prices, and I'd like to know because I want to expand my hard drive capacity as well :)

That's the thing! I suppose it would fit an A600 but I can't be 100% sure...

Mounting bracket, craddle, same thing, I had to make up a name for it :p

Well, I finally opened the A600 and the craddle was inside :) , so no more worries about it.

I only need now the 1 meg memory expansion and the harddrive :(

Akira, the harddrive is only connected to the 44 pins connector on the left, isn't it?

BTW, did your monitor survive?. I found a doc in Aminet for connect an Amiga to a CPC monitor (soon I'll get a CPC 6128)

the problem is that only an 2.5" Hardrive will fit inside the small A600 case :( (the same with an A1200) , But you can ofcourse use a standard 3.5" Hardrive but then it would end up hanging on the outside :) (but it works :))..

getting a cheap 2.5" drive is problay the easiest :)

Hey UUkrul

Yes, the hard drive is conencted to that thing only. both the IDE and power is transmitted thru it :)

I know a place storing 1MB Chip ram expansions for A600s, with clock and all. I will PM you with the location.

I havent taken my monitor to check yet :( I dont have a CPC monitor BTW, I am connecting my 6128 to the 1084.

Cheers,

Last week on ebay I found two different memory expansions but the same guy won me :(

I can get it at Spain but I don't want to pay $40 for that memory. At least soon I'll put my hands on a cheap CPC 6128 :)
