I got the Jaguar for £32, to be honest I don't know if that was a bargain.
RetroMan
05 October 2001, 08:42
Not a bargain, but a fair price anyway ;)
Akira
05 October 2001, 18:27
Yeah, decent price. Keep an eye on eBay for games. DO GET Alien vs Predator :) And Rayman
There were very nice Amiga ports on the Jaguar, liee Zool 2.
RetroMan
05 October 2001, 18:33
Yep, Alien vs. Predator is a MUST have, but I also would suggest TEMPEST, my all-time-fav on Jaguar ;):)
Akira
05 October 2001, 18:37
OH YEAH! Tempest 2000! fucking groovy!!!! Jeff MInter on acid! :D
You must get a Jaguar CD unit now mate... the Virtual LIght Machine in it is worth the dosh :)

Cheers, I'll get on the case.

I've played the PC version of Tempest 2000. I wonder if the original Jaguar game is the best version to play?
Akira
05 October 2001, 20:50
The PC version is SHITE.
Jaguar is best, followed by the Saturn version.

05 October 2001, 21:16
Why exactly is the PC version shite? Anyhow, I really want to play the other two versions. I even have a Saturn, so maybe I should find that game for myself (maybe I'll buy it, or maybe I'll download the whole game off an FTP and burn it to CD :haha).
Anyway, I have Tempest X for the PSX, which looks even more tripped up on acid AND has 2000 as a hidden game. :D THIS GAME RULES. http://www.isp-choice.com/smilies/toocool.gif

Do get the Saturn version, should be easy to score it as a local euro copy. If you want to download it, you pirate twat, do it, and screw up your Saturn while doing the swap trick :D
The PC version just doesnt have teh flair of the Jag/Sat versions. The MIDI soundtrack, for one reason, fucs it up completely. Believe me, get the Sat version.
The PSX port is not half bad but no bananas

Birdy ol chap. What about you try the Jag version of Doom? I haveplayed it, and no doubt it was better than Pc, PSX or Amiga version. Never tried the Mac version, but I do know I liked the Jag version the best!!
If you are into racing, avoid Club Drive at all costs!!! Absolute horrible stuff:p Checkered Flag is somewhat ok...

Cheers Fred, I've never even used one of these before, so it's good to know there are some good games for it.
I looked for games for sale, but they were only in bundles with the console - I should have looked a bit more before buying I think.
I thought it actually came with a cd, Akira, that's why I went for it!

Well, biry, the CD was not much, I remember a handful were produced. And one magazine here, EGM, called it a "toilet seat lid"
Oh, and I remember when out mutual freind bragged to me , and does to this day, that Aliens Vs Predator was incredible. It is, as far as I am concerned.!

That cd and the jag got dubbed the crapper here i think. Not a name you'd want your product to be nicknamed methinks.
It's a shame atari didn't get their act together with the jaguar, it could have been big. I remember reading about atari demonstrating the crapper at some show, apparently it exploded during the demonstration. Hehe, Atari just know how to show of their products!
Fred the Fop
06 October 2001, 10:27
:laughing..I did not know about the explosion. Though the specs were good, I am not to knowledgeable technically. But when I saw the preview of the sstem in some magazine, and saw the controler, and the logo with that tacky, very 80's sloppy claw mark, I knew the system was dead in the water.

Exploding or not, loking like a crapper or not (may I remind you, I call the old iBooks toilette lids :)), the C daddon is worth the dosh for Jeff Minter's Virtual Light Machine. Pop in a CD and play away with a wonderful 'visualization plugin' of old , and way better than all that Winamp shite.
Brill :)

The old iBooks were strange looking, but still work better and are faster than vast majority of PC Notebooks.
Oh, and the new ones, the one I have?? Incredibly sleek, well made and beautiful. A work of art.
Akira
08 October 2001, 20:15
Argh you tart, you upgraded from toilette lid to beaut! I've been wanting to get one of those for months now, I just cant get the dosh yet :(
A piece of art, indeed. I like it more than the Powerbook G4 for some reason.
Fred the Fop
08 October 2001, 21:00
I never had the toilet lid, my mom does, Akira.. I have the newer one. My mom's BF has the G4 and the G3, and the G4 is better, for OS X optimization. Of course, you could not care less for OS X, the best OS ever. But, the G3 is perfect for OS 9+.

I can get my Saturn chipped, you daft imbecile. No swapping tricks will be needed after that. ;)

I guess you're not a Winamp fan then? :rolleyes

Winamp is amazing and very well put together, so she is entitled to his opinion. (she to his?? Hmm..)
Akira
09 October 2001, 04:42
Yeah go and find a modchip for your Saturn. You can't find WHDLoad games and you will find a modchip ooookay.
I do like Winamp but the VLM is eons ahead.
Fred, your family is in any way related to Steve Jobbs? :D
Fred the Fop
09 October 2001, 05:11
Actually, no, but My mom's bf wrote the first PC user manual in 1980. The hunk of shit had no OS or manual:p.
Thats when he saw the Apple ][ ....'nuff said. He also met Steve Jobs at a developers meeting in 1989 whn Next Step was being produced. That OS is still incredible, doing things Windoze prays it could.

Back on track..who is more evil, Sam Tramiel or Trip Hawkins?
Twistin'Ghost
09 October 2001, 07:10
Sam. All Tramiels are evil!
Plus, Trip was a huge Amiga supporter, while Sam ('s dad?) merely stole Amiga plans...
Fred the Fop
09 October 2001, 07:25
Well my hatred for the Tramiels knows no bounds....slimy scum.
My dislike of Hawkins is not so much personality, but his poor marketing technique regarding in my opinion, what could have been the "Amiga" of consoles, the illustrious and lamented 3DO. Damn them all to hell, there ain't even an emulator for it yet:(
Or The Jaguar.
Or the Saturn. I know, Akira, Buy one. I will...the Saturrn will be mine :evilgrin
Twistin'Ghost
09 October 2001, 07:50
Yeah, I was also very disappointed in the dismal sales of the 3DO. It sure seemed like it was being hyped up very well initially. I wrote many articles in our Amiga group's newletters and such where I stuck my neck out and said this was going to be the machine that would make a real impact. Of course, I was very wrong.
And whatever happened to the Philips CD-i, which was supposed to be the 3DO's big competitor? No emulator for it yet, either I take it?
Fred the Fop
09 October 2001, 08:02
I think that there is indeed a CD-i emu....let me confirm this first.
burn Cycle, a cyber punk adventure, I think was considered its best game.
But the latter generation consoles are so difficult to emulate.

Here's a link for a Saturn emulator - I've no idea if it works.

Akira
09 October 2001, 20:00
It works as fast as a wounded snail :P
Nothing Beats the Real Thing!©
The 3D0 looked posh, but it seems it was a bit overhyped. Dunno to what extent, since Amiga people took part on it.
Tramiel is a bastard :P
Fred the Fop
09 October 2001, 21:00
Thanks for the link, Birdy ol' chap! Alas, Akira, for the first time since he admitted that his avatar was gay, is correct.
The real thang'll have to do. That's why I have enlisted you to beat up Kraig to take his Saturn away from him. The poor console is gathering dust!!
Thanks my freind:)!
BTW, if you do not know what Kraig looks like, he is a 6'3 Sam Tramiel. Ugh.

Just use eBay, you 2 pence hooker.
Next week I'm modding my Saturn with a country switch, so I can play imports effortlessly!
Amigaboy
10 October 2001, 00:15
My friend modded his Saturn (or something). I don't really pay attention, but I'm pretty sure he's done this
Fred the Fop
10 October 2001, 00:34
Well amigaboy, I need cash to buy the saturn. i am thinking of selling all my megadrive tapes and hocking my liberace coffee mug collection to finance this. Wanna buy some Fred "Rerun" Berry beach towels cheap?
Amigaboy
10 October 2001, 00:35
Do I get fries with that?
Fred the Fop
10 October 2001, 05:21
No you get a Liberace mug:p

Amigaboy: your pal might have chipmodded it to play CDRs (dirty pir8 :)). I dont want to do that and I cant be arsed to finda mega rare 20 pin chipmod :P (I have one of the early model Saturns)
With teh country switch I can play imports I buy at ebay
Amigaboy
10 October 2001, 22:38
I have no idea what he chipmodded it to do
He can play CD-Rs, so that's probably it
He also plays imports :confused
Oh well. I don't care really. I'm not a console person
Akira
10 October 2001, 23:07
Yep that's a CDR chipmod. PERHAPS he also added a country switch but I doubt it, with CDRs, you can hack teh games before you burn them so they match your Saturn's country.
Also, he might have an Action Replay cartridge.. did he have a white cart atop the Sat?
