I played around with blueMSX for quite a while now, and that blueTV feature is just great ! It "emulates" different kind of cables for connecting the computer to a TV/Monitor and hey, it feels just great ....

Well, look yourself -> http://www.gamers-jp.com/bluetest/features.html

(scroll down until you get to blueTV !)

I know itīs not an essential feature but itīs really fun :)

What ??? Not even ONE answer ??? You guys are really busy doing other things, are you ;) ???

well just because you ask it :) ... i feel no need for that, i use the filters that are there already just once in a while, except the very useful direct3d and/or openGL.
i don't see the point in more blur/scramble pixel; i think better if toni focuses on compatibility then on more eye candy.
but again this is just my token

x64, the Commodore64 emulator has got PAL emulation in it (BlueTV is probably based on it). I find that it really makes a difference to the emulation and it feels far more like you are playing on a real C64 than the normal pin-sharp emulation display.

IMHO pointless in my opinion.. but I can support it if it is easy to do (I haven't looked at the implementation yet)

btw, I have always used RGB connection when possible. I just can't stand looking at composite (crap) or RF (total crap)

yeah RGB is the way to go. It's the best picture I can get cos I can't afford a HDTV :)

I agree. :) It would be a nice feature.

I'd second that request if it's not too much work. :)

VICE (C64 emulator) also has this feature and it really brings back that feeling I had when playing on my trusted old C64 back in '85. And the same would apply to my "early Amiga years" feeling. ;)

x64 is the C64 emulation component of the VICE package. VICE is actually a collection of Commodore computer emulators.

Ah, ok. I stand corrected then. :)

Good to know we are talking about the same stuff.

I agree. Compatibility is far more important than eye candy.

It makes the whole experience more like the real thing... Come on, it is a MSX so it is great. :bowdown

I finally downloaded the souce package and it does not appear to be GPL-compatible (src/VideoRender.c and .h)

I wouldn't say pointless, as those early Amiga games surely had been designed for this kind of monitor quality and they simply look "wrong" on todays ultra-sharp displays. In my opinion "getting the look right" is almost as important as getting the game to work properly.

For example playing "Zak McKrakken" on a modern display just does not "feel" right (when compared to the real thing back in the 80s with all its glorious "blurriness" :) ).

Of course if there are some legal issues concerning the mentioned blueMSX code (being not GPL) that's sad... but maybe there are other algorithms. :)
Or one might try to talk to the authors of blueMSX...

Sorry but I never found blurrines to be glorious. I used my C64 through Chroma+Luma, because I hated all the Composite bleeding. And my Amiga went through RGB. Despised the TV looks.

if you want it blurry get a card with TV Out and connect teh output to yoru TV through RF if you want to. No need to add that to an emulator.

VICE is GPL'ed, so you could try to the source for the PAL emulation in that.

I think the Scale2X stuff is pretty neat:
http://scale2x.sourceforge.net/snapshot1.html

I wouldn't say it was exactly a necessary emulation feature though.

Fiath, we already have Scale2x under filters :D

Of course I agree that blurriness ist not "glorious", but (for some people) it adds that missing nostalgic (and sometimes even "right") feeling when playing old games. And patching the signal through to a real TV is IMHO not really an option. That's what emulators are for: emulating. ;)

But as I said before, if it's too much trouble I agree that the effort should foremost be spend into getting WinUAE stable. This sort of filter could always be added later (or as a contribution by someone else).

Cool, when did that go in? I think my WinUAE is a bit old...

Filters were first introduced about 8 months ago...
