Hmm okay, here is a weird request: Yesterday I was flicking through my magazines and in the September issue 1989 of CU Amiga there was an article about prices for videogames. The article featured a picture which was copy 'n' pasted together. It had Michael Douglas in his Wall Street-role sitting in front of two computermonitors. Two screens from Amiga games were pasted on the monitors. I do not know from which game(s) they are taken from but here is a brief description:

The first one, a Game_Over screen, is a nicely drawn static screen with some soldiers dressed in blue clothes laughing at you. They also wear golden helmets.

The other screen is an action sequence. It has a hero (which I cannot see) fighting a lion-like monster. The monster has a purple skin and looks 'hairy'. The background looks very dark-blue and has a beautiful drawn sky with shades of black, blue and purple.

Do these descriptions ring a bell? The pictures are taken from a game that is released before 1990. First I thought the pictures are taken from Titus' Knightforce but now I am not sure. The pictures could also be taken from a Psygnosis game.

I think you are talking about MoonStone.

But those lion thingies weren't purple were they?

Thanks for bringing back this topic, JB2097. I really forgot about this thread. Has it really been four months?
No, it isn't Moonstone. This game is published in 1991 and the screenshots I am looking for are from 1986-1989. :(

Can you post some scans of the game image, it may help..

Poppe,
You are absolutely right. When I have my new PC (this is within two weeks) the first thing I will do is to scan that very picture. This thread really has to end after all those months.:o

Here is some more info of the game I can supply at the moment:
The game looks definitely like a horizontal scrolling Fantasy game. It is very similar to Shadow of the Beast but the control/score panel is different.

No, no and err... no. All titles you mention are released post 1989. The pictures of the game I am looking for are from the September 1989 issue of CU Amiga.

If only I could access a database full of Amiga screenshots (Subtle hint to see something of the upcoming Ultimate Amiga database ;) )

My supa-dupa AMD Athlon 1800+ XP 512 MB Geforce 3 Titanium 2 PC flying machine with Windows XP pre-installed (Booo, hisss) will be delivered this Friday.
Since my scanner has only a parallel port I really hope Windows XP will recognise this parallel connection. If not, I will install my trusty ol’ Windows 95 again. ;)
Stay tuned...

Finally after all those months I am proud to have scanned the article. Does anyone know which Amiga game(s) are represented on the monitors? This puzzles me since 1989.

Yeah, they don't look like Amiga games...

I am shocked. To say it is a dissapointment to find out after thirteen years that the screenshots probably aren’t grabbed from an Amiga is a huge understatement.
Back in 1989 when I was a C64 user, I saw these pictures in the magazine and from that moment on I definitely wanted to get an Amiga 500. The following years when I was an Amiga user, I tried to find the games belonging to these pictures but with no luck. Now I know why…:crying

I think the left one is Willow. A capcom arcade game.

Dynasty Wars exists for the Amiga, but AFAIK from the reviews, this version isn't very good.

Willow:

There is a game named Willow for the Amiga, but it has nothing to do with that screenshot.

The willow Amiga game was based (as far as I can tell) on the movie of the same name.

Hehe yes I tried to run it now but couldn't get past the intro screen. It just loops endlessly. didn't look like a similar game anyway. But this arcade game is based on the movie as well.

Burseg,
Thanks for providing the arcade screenshot of Willow. It certainly looks like the biz. Now I know at last what game is represented on that monitor. I think I will download the arcade game in the near future. Now my soul can rest.. ;)

In Amiga Willow, I think you have to click on some of the words in the intro.

This game is bad!

I clicked on the mindscape logo. Than the game asked me if I wanted to go back or start a new game. At that point, it kicks me back to scroll no matter which one I choose. Probably there's another word to be clicked. But seeing your screenshot I've lost my interest :D

I don't think I have it here with me - can someone else upload it?

I had that issue of CU Amiga too; both arcade games had been reviewed in the mag a few months previously, and if I recall correctly they has used the same pictures in those reviews. Gosh, I have so many memories of my magazines, but I left them at my mothers when I left home... I want them back!

Woohoo, it has been a very long time since I looked at this thread. Thanks for providing a picture of Dynasty Wars arcade, Titler.

B.t.w. Can you still get the mags? I am running a website covering HTML-ised reviews of Amiga games (Amigareviews (http://classicgaming.com/amigareviews/home.htm)) and it would be great to get some scanned 'ancient' reviews in CU Amiga. :cheese

Unfortunatly, not until I can earn the money to buy a car to load all the boxes of mags into the back, and then move them half way across the UK to where I am now :sad They'll be safe where they are though, so if I get them, and this board is still here then, I'll let you know! There were some CU, CU Amiga, C+VG's and Mean Machines/MMSega if I recall correctly...
