Amiga on a FPGA?

Thoughts:
1) A Field-Programmable Gate Array (AFAIK) is a Processing Unit that can be programmed with any function(s) you can program into the logic units.
2) An Amiga uses an entirely different set of functions than, say, a x86.
3) Therefore, you could emulate an Amiga on a FPGA?
4) This could be done by (a) hobbyist(s).

Anyone know anything about the feasibility of this? I haven't done any low-level programming, nor have I so much as touched a FPGA, so I'm just guessing here.
